Based in Dubai but traveling across the world to pursue her tennis career, Jannat Chiripal is an 11th grade student balancing her academics with her love for tennis, studying subjects including Honors English, Pre-Calculus, Human Anatomy and Physiology, American History, and Health. An avid tennis player, Jannat spends the majority of her time training in her sport and has participated in many international tournaments such as the Eddie Herr International Junior Championship, and International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments at Fujairah, Kuwait, Riyadh, Pune, Kish Island, Dubai, Iran, and Zimbabwe. Notably, she emerged as the doubles finalist at the Karaj Junior Championship, ITF Iran and has reached the finals at ITF Kuwait, semi-finals at ITF Accra.
Having witnessed the benefits of sports firsthand, Jannat launched The Indian Open with the aim of inspiring and mobilizing the younger generation of the country to engage in athletics and reap the multifarious benefits they offer. In an academic vein, Jannat is also extremely interested in environmental studies and urban development, specifically the development of sustainable cities and towns that cater to the needs of its citizens. She is currently participating in the USC Pre-College Summer Program, ‘Environmental Studies: Sustainability and Your World’, to learn more about environmental ecology, coastal pollution, and the future of conservation work to inform her interest. She has also enrolled in the ‘Sustainable Neighborhoods’ online course offered by Johns Hopkins University on Coursera, learning about ways to analyze the natural context for successful sustainable neighborhoods, understanding key components of a neighborhood that are essential for sustainable cities, and examining case studies in San Antonio and Tennessee. Jannat’s hope for the future is an India in which young students harness and enhance their potential through sports education, enjoying a more holistic development than what is traditionally offered in schools.
